#1. Keep your posts to a reasonable length. Nobody wants to slog through a novel with every post. On that same token, one-sentence posts are pretty much universally loathed in every RP forum I've ever been on. Write a paragraph or three to keep the story moving, and you're good.
Also, use paragraph breaks. Lots of them if necessary. Your number one concern when writing a good roleplay post is readability. The only thing worse than an overly long post is an overly long post in solid brick format.
#2. No wacky fonts, colored text, teeny tiny writing, etc. Remember that readability is the goal. Everyone's monitor is different, so even if colored writing looks okay on YOUR monitor it might make your post completely unreadable on someone else's. Plus, it clashes with the decor.
Unless using italics or bold for emphasis or whatever, your best bet is to stick with the default font, size, and color.
#3. No flooding. Give other players a chance to respond to your posts. If you've posted asking Cody a question, wait for Cody to respond. Don't wait half an hour for him to post, and then just dive into a conversation with another character at random--this leaves Cody's player in a really awkward position when they get back.
Likewise, if Sierra has asked Cody a question, don't post asking him another one immediately--give his player a chance to respond to the first one. Conversation in the RP should flow naturally like conversation in real life does. Try animating it in your head and seeing what it looks/sounds like.
Remember that not everyone is online constantly, and that you are roleplaying with EVERYONE--not just the people currently online.
#4. Please check your spelling, punctuation, etc. Everyone makes typos now and then, but it's common courtesy to proofread your post before posting. If you're on a mobile phone where you really can't proofread, then don't post until you're on a computer where you can.
#5. Make your posts count. Don't just post to post--DO something, whether that is taking an action, talk to another player, etc. Ideally, give other players something that they can respond to. On that note, avoid making posts that are JUST a confession cam, or just an OOC comment. Nobody can respond to them IC and they don't help move the story along.
Due to issues with this and flooding, players are currently able to make only a few posts a day in the roleplay area--once you have reached your limit, the "Reply" buttons will disappear and you will have to wait 24 hours before you can post again. Once everyone is settled in and used to the pace, this limit will probably be increased as time goes on and eventually lifted.
